What Is an Invisible Character?

An invisible character is a real Unicode character that shows up as empty space. Apps count it as text, so it works in places where a normal space gets trimmed away, like a name field that can't be blank or an empty line in an Instagram caption.

Why It Sometimes Doesn't Work

Each app decides which characters to allow. Many remove zero-width characters from names, and some block Hangul Filler once it becomes popular. If one is rejected, try another from the list. Rules change over time, so a character that works today may not work next month.

How do I make a blank name?
Copy Hangul Filler and paste it into the name field. If the app says the name is too short, copy three at once. If it's rejected, try Halfwidth Hangul Filler or Braille Blank. Many apps now block blank names, so it won't work everywhere.
How do I add empty lines in an Instagram caption?
Choose Braille Blank and turn on One per line. Paste it on its own line wherever you want an empty line between paragraphs. Instagram keeps the line because it isn't really empty.
What is the difference between a zero-width space and Hangul Filler?
A zero-width space (U+200B) has no width, so it can't create visible space. Hangul Filler (U+3164) is as wide as a character and looks like a blank. Use Hangul Filler when you want something that looks empty, and a zero-width space when you want no gap at all.
Why was my invisible character rejected?
Each app decides which characters it allows, and rules change over time. Many remove zero-width characters or block popular fillers. Try another character from the list, or paste more than one.
How do I find and remove hidden characters in text?
